Evita description

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s glittering musical about Eva Peron is touching, bold, beautiful and stuffed with magical tunes. It takes to the stage at the Phoenix following Gary Barlow’s fabulous show The Girls closes, and it's set to be a monster of a hit... yet again.

This is the tale of one extraordinary woman’s dramatic rise to power, at a time when Argentina was suffering terrible political unrest. It has been on tour, thrilling audiences across the UK, and is due for a limited 12 week run at the Phoenix between 2nd August and 14th October 2017.

This time around it's a particularly poignant event, marking the 65th anniversary of Eva Peron's untimely death, at 33, from cancer. Her life will also be commemorated in Argentina during July, marking the life of an enigmatic women who came from humble beginnings but rose to a position of extraordinary power, widely hailed as her country's spiritual leader and adored by millions.

Emma Hatton, fresh from the lead role as Elphaba in Wicked, plays Evita, having also thrilled audiences with her roles in We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre, and Dreamboats and Petticoats. The brilliant Italian actor Gian Marco Schiaretti plays Che, the character who represents the Argentinian people. He starred in Disney’s Musical Tarzan, in Stuttgart, Germany, and also played Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet in his home country.

Evita follows Eva’s remarkable rags to riches journey, a woman whose death was met with intense public grief. Three million people attended her funeral in Buenos Aires, testament to her influence and popularity. Everyone over aged 10 is welcome. Just remember to bring a hanky!
