The Adelphi Theatre sits on London’s famous The Strand and it’s the fourth building on the site. The first was opened in 1806, redesigned in the 1930s in classic, clean-lined Art Deco style by Ernest Schaufelberg, complete with a typical Deco hexagonal window. Famed for a series of top plays and musicals, the theatre was bought by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group in 1993 and given a facelift. Well known productions have included Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant starring Gertrude Lawrence, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Charlie Girl with Dame Anna Neagle and the popular revival of Me and My Girl with Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson. The Adelphi’s longest run, spanning an impressive nine years, was Kander and Ebb’s fabulous musical Chicago, and it has also hosted Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Recently premiering Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, the venue boasts two smart bars in the stalls, one in the Dress Circle and another in the Upper Circle. All of which makes Adelphi theatre tickets a must for a great night out!
